In the broad arena of computer vision, APIXA provides expert advice and performs tailored system design and implementation. We have accumulated a wealth of experience in a wide range of sectors. We take a partnership approach to deliver the solutions our customers need. We offer them expertise, subsystem hardware, software components or complete solutions. Our efforts can be bundled in a complete A-to-Z project or executed in co-development with the customer, e.g. by adding an external R&D team.

Resolving the most complex computer vision challenges

Most of the time, APIXA is approached to resolve highly complex computer vision challenges for which no off-the shelf solutions are available. We make optimal use of computer vision in favor of creating maximum added value. Gaining a high-level understanding from digital images or videos enables us to understand and automate tasks, often not imagined feasible at beforehand. Our custom developed solutions provide image data, which highlight the features that matter most, as well as highly-effective software components for detection, classification and other vision-related tasks. APIXA's stronghold is the transformation of visual images into descriptions of the world that can elicit appropriate action.

From performing research to delivering turnkey solutions

Our bespoke computer vision expertise can serve you in different ways. Pure research performed by APIXA can be the starting point in support of realizing your computer vision ambitions.

Co-engineering can be the right path to resolve specific computer vision challenges. This may entail the development of a structures flight 3D camera for fruits or nuts quality control or the development of GPU-based deep learning and AI software components for an existing inspection solution.

Customers also rely on APIXA for the development of entire subsystems and complete turnkey solutions. We often develop the entire computer vision part of existing or new machines. For a number of computer vision applications, APIXA is entrusted the development of complete turnkey solutions. Such A-to-A projects can be e.g. an automotive lidar-based product for self-driving cars or an automation solution used in the production of building construction bricks.

Extending from hardware to software development or vice versa

Typically, the first assignment of a new customer primarily focuses on either a hardware or software related computer vision challenge. A successful implementation generally brings on additional computer vision projects, often shifting or extending from hardware to software development or vice versa.

For a larger biotech company APIXA started off developing core computer vision algorithms followed by enhancing imaging hardware to obtain better visual data to base decisions on. Customers learn to see the technical capabilities and business opportunities offered by well-matched computer vision hardware and software. Successive (co-)development assignments may ultimately lead to long-term partnerships, a true win-win for both parties built on mutual trust.

From initial study to production-ready commercial product

Over the years, APIXA has grown to become a trusted technology and R&D partner for customers in different industries. Concretely, our iteration cycle evolves from a feasibility or initial pilot study using our in-house labs, to a prototype at the customer, and eventually to a scalable, production-ready integrated system.

In a number of cases, our system is a packaged product commercialized by customers. Our structured approach ensures high quality and productivity along the process from initial discussions to the final product:

  • In-house feasibility study: In this stage, we will create a small-scale test setup to image customer samples. This step helps us determine hardware specifications and provides initial examples and validation for algorithmic solutions.
  • Pilot/prototype phase: Here we create an initial system that can create images representative of an end-use system. This helps us identify any issues, provides a test bed for software development, and can be used for generating training data if required for a given project.
  • Final system: We deliver and install the end-use system and provide user training. Attention is paid to reliability and robustness, as well as usability for non-technical end users.
