Modern warehouses require fewer and fewer human interactions to unload single SKU pallets and build mixed pallets for shipment to retailers. The absence of human supervision calls for automated inspection and monitoring solutions that need to assess features of all inbound and outbound items.
Vision++ has closely collaborated with a large international warehouse integrator to co-develop innovative vision solutions for the warehouse of the future.
A 3D Case Check System inspects the dimensions and other properties of cases of any color and shape. This 3D scan gate combines 3 innovative laser measurement systems capable of imaging transparent foils, specular foils, cans, glass bottles,… The system measures each case and checks for its conveyability (e.g. loose straps) and damages. The results are communicated to the Warehouse Management System (WMS) immediately after inspection. The system is available in two flavors:
- The teach-in system is used to add measurements of new cases to the warehouse inventory database.
- The inspection system fetches these measurements from the inventory database before the arrival of the case at the 3D scan gate.
The 3D Stack Monitor monitors an automatic mixed palletizing process. Mixed palletizing remains a challenging task in automated warehouses as the interactions between cases during stacking are hard to model and predict. Skewed or sagged stacks can cause new cases to become damaged or tip over. The monitoring system continuously compares the expected stack and the actual stack and sends feedback to the palletizing robot.
A 3D Order Pick & Place System automates the manual order picking process. The pick system accurately localizes items using a stereo camera system. The system is also able to identify the products based on pictures and text on tthe surface of the items. The place system scans the (partially filled) order tote and computes the optimal place location for the picked item using a set of heuristics.
